BACCO PASTICCERIA

Chifley Plaza, 2 Chifley Square, Sydney, NSW, 2000

Bacco shares its name with the Roman god of wine, and this pasticceria shares its space with a swanky wine bar featuring 80 or so bottles on its list. Boasting a strong Italian influence, the pasticceria offers a decadent selection of cakes and pastries — putting a flamboyant spin on classics such as Tiramisu and Lemon Tart, along with a signature dish of Rose-Flavoured Macaroons. The space is something of a thoroughfare, given its haunts in the foyer of Chifley Plaza, and things can get quite noisy at times. Despite this, Bacco is a welcoming setting for a mod-Italo treat.

The coffee, sourced from ecologically sustainable beans. My espresso has a strong, peppery aroma and slick consistency. It possesses vibrant acidity, and the spiced, chocolaty flavours linger deliciously. The latte is especially milky, giving a sugary aroma and subtle nut-like flavour. It has a thick viscosity and a weak albeit creamy aftertaste. Certainly some of the best coffee I’ve had.
