84 Maling Road, Canterbury, VIC, 3126

Tucked into the pretty precinct of Canterbury’s Maling Road shops, Bambaleros is a happy breather from knick-knacks and lace. The proud roaster on display touts the virtue of fair-trade coffee, and offers some excellent tasting notes to boot.

A long macchiato arrives with an unexpectedly voluminous white froth – more cappuccino than ‘stain’ of milk – with a slightly charry finish stealing through the otherwise biscuity tones. But happily, the latte is more impressive, with heavy creaminess marrying well to the baked notes and finishing with a malty flourish.

There’s a lot of information here, and a nod to various coffee drinking cultures, along with images of coffee cherries and clear dispensers filled with beans (Ethiopian Limu and Colombian Swiss Water Decaf). You can also choose from a wide array of cleaners, plungers and grinders to help at home. And, thankfully, there’s also plenty of advice on hand – all you have to do is ask.

Living so close to the cafe, I was pleasantly surprised when I visited Bambaleros a few months ago. Since then, I’ve become a regular and always receive high quality service. The coffee is the best I’ve tasted on the street.
Once or twice, I’ve had to wait longer than expected before our drinks and meal arrived. However, it was well worth the wait once they arrived.

Bambaleros is one to seek out if you have a true passion for quality coffee. With its own roaster knocking out boutique batches of their very own signature blend, this vibrant little cafe is constantly filled with the intoxicating aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. Take a timeout from your busy schedule here and relax with a cup (or two) of truly good coffee
