Shop 1/2 Danks Street, Waterloo, NSW, 2017
It’s off the beaten path, but Danks Street in Waterloo is certainly on the eaten path, with food stores, cafes and regular markets. Danks Street Depot has contributed greatly to the development of the area, and the cafe/restaurant’s focus on sustainable, organic and local produce has made it a foodie destination.
The cafe is decked out in timbers and metal. With smartly dressed waiters whizzing about holding PDAs, it’s modern, yet somehow manages an old-fashioned hospitality. The menu is neither long nor cheap, but offers inventive variations on ordinary brunch fare. The omelette stuffed with goats cheese and fresh basil provides a decadent breakfast.
A delicately patterned cappuccino with hazelnut and cinnamon tones is complex and comforting, while an espresso carries the same warm flavours with an extra, sour cherry note that sparkles on the palate. Sit a while and relax — before beating a path to the nearby galleries.
