12 Challis Avenue, Potts Point, NSW, 2011

Fratelli Paradiso offers an authentic slice of Italian restaurant culture in the authentically trendy Potts Point. The pristine interior is dimly lit and decorated in chocolate hues, while a large patterned feature wall livens the space. But it’s the leafy alfresco dining area that steals the show -and most of the patrons. The menu is scrawled over a large blackboard, written in decidedly Italian cursive. For non-speakers or infrequent Italian eaters, the very courteous and knowledgeable waitstaff are on hands to provide colourful translations. At any rate, the food is suavely inviting and the wine list – with much by the glass – even more so.

My espresso exudes a spicy aroma with nut-like infusions, and some great acidity pairs up with an oily body, but ends in a gritty finish. The subtle peppery flavour is short lived, leaving a pleasant aftertaste. My soy latte has a soft vanilla aroma. The creamy consistency affords a luxurious mouthfeel, and the light, sweet aftertaste is simply paradiso.
