Three Beans

Three Beans is an expanding franchise, operating several cafes around the Sydney district. The Potts Point espresso bar is surrounded by an odd mix of restaurants and backpacker’s accommodation, and its confines are decorated in an array of earthy tones, with ornate hand-painted stools and vibrant green trimmings.

For quite a small space, the menu is long. Although built on efficiency – think sandwiches, salads, breads and preserves – the quality of ethical ingredients isn’t compromised. Three Beans have even been recognised by the RSPCA’s Choose Wisely Business Directory for their commitment to animal welfare.

The espresso has a strong, complex aroma, containing fruity and chocolate-like tones. There’s vibrant acidity and spicy flavours, with a hint of bitterness. The latte has a vanilla aroma and good acidity to balance the almondy flavour and creamy texture. Great to see a franchise whose quality isn’t inversely proportional to its expansion.

I’m think I’m now a regular at the above cafe. Have tried a couple of others for my essential, pre-work coffee but feel the ambience suits me mostly there (and the coffee and service is very good too).
