The Coffee Guide (TCG): If you weren’t a barista what would you be?
Jeromy: I’d be a tourist around the world or volunteer helping people in Africa.
TCG: How do you have your coffee at home? How do you make it and how do you take it?
Jeromy: I don’t have any coffee machines at home, so normally I will go out to different coffee shops. I love to go cafe hopping when I get free time and try the new things.
TCG: What’s the best thing about your job- the one thing that you really love aside from the coffee?
Jeromy: I can meet a lots of friends, communicate with different people and listen to their story. I get to share my favourite coffee with customers.
TCG: What is your favourite music?
Jeromy: R&B or Pop music.
TCG: What’s your favourite food?
Jeromy: Taiwaness food, because I’m originally from Taiwan!!
TCG: Tell us what your best (or first) coffee experience was.
Jeromy: I had a piccolo from Coffee Alchemy, it tasted like blueberry cheesecake. You can feel their passion in the coffee. It surprises me every time.
TCG: If you’re not drinking coffee, what is your drink of choice?
Jeromy: I will drink peppermint tea, I really like the mint flavour. It makes me feel full of energy and refreshes me.
TCG: What made you become a barista?
Jeromy: I love to drink coffee, and so I wanted to make good coffee by myself. At first some of my friends taught me all the basic coffee knowledge in Sydney and pushed me into the next stage. I wanted to learn more about coffee.
TCG: What’s the largest amount of coffees you have made in a day?
Jeromy: I used to work for Toby’s Estate in Fox Studios. Maybe around 800 in a few hours.
TCG: What is the most exciting thing happening in coffee right now for you?
Jeromy: I will run my own shop in Taiwan at the end of year. I want to try to bring different coffee culture back to Taiwan and communicate with other people.
TCG: If you could pick one spot in the world to sit and have a coffee, where would it be and what coffee would you have?
Jeromy: I would have a flat white in Australia, because I learned my most basic coffee knowledge in Australia. I enjoy the excellent coffee and relaxed life here.
TCG: Where is your favourite place to hang out in Sydney?
Jeromy: I love sit and read the papers at Balmain East Wharf, I really enjoy the view.
TCG: What’s your favourite time of the year and why?
Jeromy: Maybe the Chinese new year, all family will have a big dinner together and see some old friends.
TCG: What is your favourite movie of all time?
Jeromy: The Dark Knight (Batman), a microcosm of life.
TCG: Where did you grow up? And what is your fondest childhood memory?
Jeromy: Taiwan. I grew up in Taichung city and I spent most of my time playing baseball with my brother.
TCG: What did you do on your last day off?
Jeromy: I drank more and more coffee and I went to some of my favourite shops in Sydney.
TCG: In a good cup of coffee, how much of it is due to the barista and how much is due to the beans?
Jeromy: 75% barista, 25% beans. If the beans don’t taste so great then the barista needs to find out why. Then you will know how to serve your coffee.
