Mars Hill Lounge

If you had to choose one cafe in which to hide away all day, Mars Hill Cafe would be up there. This cosy bohemian joint enjoys a passionate and friendly vibe, with local artists, poets and musicians performing here regularly. It’s also the kind of place where you can really feel at home, with defined spaces for chilling, lounging and entertainment.

There’s free wireless internet (because these days, you can’t hide away all day without it). And of course, ample and delicious sustenance to power you through your seclusion.

I settle into an aged blue lounge with my short black — which is shorter than usual, and served in a correspondingly small shot glass. The nutty aroma is beautifully balanced by a deep
acidity. The latte has a commendable creaminess, which is round and slightly salty. I’m left with an extended aftertaste… to match, perhaps, my extended stay.

Came here expecting big things. Sun arvo and rather quiet. Waited almost 15 mins for my espresso and cappuccino. Which I didn’t mind, thinking I was in for a treat. As soon as the coffees came out I noticed the first down point , espresso lacked any crema and looked horrible. The taste also followed. Cappuccino : again very disappointing. Milk was burnt froth was soap sudish with no creaminess. Could barely drink it due to the extreme temp. Over very disappointed for a 4.5 bean rated establishment. Don’t think it was worth of half a bean today.

The first double shot cap was the best I’ve had for a while. The second set me up for the day. Check out the sunny while you’re there. Not one mindless “tag” to be seen, but instead some very clever musings. Well worth the visit.
