22 Ridgway Place, Melbourne, VIC, 3000
Monaco House by architects McBride Charles Ryan is a fabulous and prismatic jumble of design derring-do. It’s way cool, and so is Liaison -the shiny smiley cafe housed in the bottom of it. Liaison is yet another cafe up a city laneway, but this one is like stepping into the glossy and groovy pages of Wallpaper* or Monocle.
Not only does it look great, but Liaison’s chirpy staff also make great coffee. My latte is rich and strong, with a toffee and biscuit aroma. It’s slightly and nicely bitter, and topped with a rich crema. My espresso is similarly rewarding, with a tobacco aroma and lots of fruity, well-rounded flavours. It’s clean-tasting, with rich viscosity and hardly any grit.
As the name suggests, this is the place for a cosy breakfast or lunch of pastries and sandwiches -before heading back to the office with an illicit skip in your step.
