DI BELLA ROASTING WAREHOUSE

19 Leveson Street, North Melbourne, VIC, 3051

Di Bella Roasting

This bright and breezy, warehouse-style space in historic North Melbourne operates as a roastery and laid-back cafe that’s ideal for weekend brunching. Bring along your biggest and best appetite – or hangover – for the sizzling clay pot of cevapcici, smoky bacon, eggs, mushies, tomatoes, and house-made baked beans. Then restart your nervous system with a Di Bella espresso.

Mine is tangy and sharp, and loiters for a while on the palate before softening into Brazil nut and toffee flavours. A clean, grit-free brew, it boasts rich viscosity and feels clean in the mouth, with aromas of tobacco and spice. The latte chaser has a comforting, bready aroma and is well rounded with a biscuity flavour.

There are wines available by the glass (should brunch turn into an all-afternoon affair), but note that the kitchen closes at three. These guys love spreading the word about the bean and, as such, conduct regular coffee appreciation classes for small groups.

Definitely one of Melbourne’s best cafes, we are there nearly everyday for coffee which is consistently great and the food is fabulous. The only downside is that they brought on a pastry chef over a year ago, who really knows their stuff (try the carrot and walnut cake), and it is a struggle to just order a coffee.
