Quiet and restrained, with modern art on the walls and long benches, Cafe Whyte’s relaxed atmosphere is a terrific place to unwind. Timber blinds and the wood floor add homely touches. The furniture has a well-used feel, and the acoustic music on the stereo is so relaxing I could lay down on a bench and snooze.
The menu is standard cafe fare, with a large breakfast selection, burgers, salads, and Turkish breads. There are a few stand-outs, such as the Creole Chicken Curry and Prawn Wonton Short Soup. The staff are friendly and attentive without being intrusive. They keep a keen eye from a distance, only popping forward occasionally to refill my glass of water.
My espresso has a solid, light brown crema. Delving deeper, woody flavours are balanced, mid-palate, with medium acidity. A short, sharp yet pleasing finish rounds out the shot. The latte is well extracted, but slightly marred by overheated milk, giving up some of its much-needed sweetness.
