From the outset, Thread exudes a passion for food and family. It’s only been open for a month at the time of this review, but we’re already liking the modern hard surfaces softened by enchanting homely touches. There’s also an Egyptian theme that subtly weaves its way through the cafe, which may all sound cluttered and confused, but it works.
The Egyptian/Mediterranean theme comes to the fore in the menu, with pide and Egyptian Happy Eggs. Much of the menu consists of items served with lashings of feta, dukkah, or honey, and others soaked in rosewater. Care has been taken in balancing flavours and using high-quality ingredients.
My espresso has a dark-speckled crema and smells of subtle spice. The flavour maintains the spice and enjoys a pleasant acidity, which rounds out wonderfully to a smooth toffee finish, rolling over the tongue. My latte is well balanced, mild, with a finish that combines toffee and milk together in harmony. A promising start for this uncommon Thread.
