320 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst, NSW, 2010

Latteria has trouble keeping its patrons inside the cafe. They literally pour out onto the pavement, with suited up execs and Darlinghurst trendies clutching their espressos while perched on wooden stools in tight huddles. The main reason is a lack of space.

The cafe is small -a painfully thin warren, whose limitations have been ingeniously overcome through a food preparation space that also serves as a dining area. It sounds disconcerting, but essentially it’s like eating in a friend’s chic wood and steel kitchen. Plus Latteria has more storage solutions than an Ikea showroom.

Another reason for the crowds is the coffee. The espressos here are rich, with a velvety hit of dark cocoa which sweetens dramatically with the addition of steamed milk. Just be prepared to wait for one of the few tables inside or enjoy your coffee 30 centimetres from the ground, next to the traffic on Victoria Street. A small price to pay for chocolaty decadence.

There is only 1 barista that makes really nice coffee – the other guy is too busy talking to everyone else than caring about the coffee and it ends up too hot and the milk is not silky. Not enjoyable at all
