This legendary venue has been wowing Sydneysiders for some time now. The roastery is focused on fair trade, organic, forest friendly and sustainable brews and years later, the guys at Single Origin are still hard at it. They might spice their own chai, brew their own naturally carbonated pale ale and rotate menus seasonally, but we still come for the coffee. The weekly single origin, to be precise.
Today, relaxing in the thin stretch of street-side seating, we’re romanced by beans from Waghi Valley, PNG. A comprehensive clipboard of notes hangs out with the barista, including everything from growing altitude to date of roasting.
My espresso is labelled the ‘Barry White’ of coffee. It arrives wafting earthy and fruity tones that should be impossible from the tiny cup. Rolling into the mouth, deep, oily and vibrant, with just a hint of citrus and a long, slow finish -I’m smitten. Better grab a bag of beans to go, and maybe some barrel-aged Colombian as well.
