The Coffee Guide (TCG): If you weren’t a barista what would you be?
Lucy: Some kind of biologist, I’m a massive biology nerd.
TCG: How do you have your coffee at home? How do you make it and how do you take it?
Lucy: I drink liters of tea at home.
TCG: What’s the best thing about your job- the one thing that you really love aside from the coffee?
Lucy: The fact that it can take me anywhere in the world.
TCG: What is your favourite music? (For work or for play).
Lucy: I’m an all rounder – anything from country to metal to hip-hop. But not jazz, never jazz…
TCG: If you’re not drinking coffee, what is your drink of choice?
Lucy: Adams Ale (water), ‘cos it’s better than all those sugary drinks that the kids get on these days.
TCG: What made you become a barista?
Lucy: It started out as learning something new in the hospitality industry, then I loved that it’s kind of an art form, so I strived to get better at it.
TCG: What food do you think is the best compliment to a really great coffee?
Lucy: An awesome citrusy slice, ‘cos it complements the creaminess of coffee.
TCG: Who would make a better coffee; King Kong or Godzilla?
Lucy: King Kong, he has opposable thumbs.
TCG: What is the most exciting thing happening in coffee right now for you?
Lucy: That people are waking up to what a good coffee is and that it’s a profession.
TCG: If you could make coffee for one other person of your choice (anyone- past or present), who would it be and what coffee would you make them?
Lucy: Layne Staley- he’d probably drink an Americano, which I dislike making… but for him, anything.
TCG: As a barista, what’s your next big plan?
Lucy: I’m gonna get me an education and become a nurse and also do bioscience.
TCG: Is decaf a dirty word?
TCG: What is your favourite kind of tea?
Lucy: English Breakfast, with soy milk and honey. Or iced-peppermint with lemon juice, that’s the goods.
